PennTESOL Teacher of the Year 

The PennTESOL Teacher of the Year Award celebrates outstanding educators whose teaching, leadership, and advocacy reflect excellence in our field and in our professional community. The award is also a way to recognize and uplift the contributions of PennTESOL members.

Eligibility 

  • Nominees should be current classroom teachers of multilingual learners/English learners.
  • Nominees should be teaching in Pennsylvania, Delaware, or New Jersey.
  • Nominator should be a current member of PennTESOL East; nominee does not need to be.
  • Self-nominations are welcome.
  • Current board members, prior winners of this award, or award committee members are not eligible for nomination.

Scoring Criteria

Each complete nomination will be evaluated on the following five criteria: Classroom Excellence, Student Impact, Field Leadership, Professional Influence, and Equity and Advocacy. Review the complete scoring rubric when assembling your nomination: Teacher of the Year Scoring Rubric

Deadline

Nominations are due April 19th, 2026. 

The honoree will be selected and informed by early May.

The  honoree will be publicly announced at the 2026 Spring Symposium, on May 30th.
