Non-Tenure Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics (Director of Academic Integration/Applied Linguistics)
Penn State Abington, Division of Arts and Humanities, seeks a committed and energetic scholar-administrator to lead initiatives for our multilingual student population, including Academic Integration Courses(AIC) and the Applied Linguistics programs(TESOL minor and ESL Specialist Certificate). As the most ethnically and linguistically diverse campus of Penn State, Abington College has developed a full range of curricular and co-curricular programs to serve its fast-growing population of multilingual students. The successful candidate for this position will: direct the AIC program; coordinate with AIC's teaching and administrative partners; manage placement of new students; support and mentor faculty, and teach one course per semester. We seek a colleague with experience teaching college composition for English language learners; collaborating with faculty on related pedagogical issues; and the ability to teach courses in theory, methodology, and praxis in second language acquisition. Our successful candidate will pursue a research agenda related to teaching and learning of languages in academic contexts, administration of academic programs, or language policy in education. The Division of Arts and Humanities values and cultivates a friendly, professional, and healthy atmosphere for its faculty and students. Abington is a baccalaureate-degree granting college of Penn State University. We offer the advantages of small-college life paired to the resources of a Big Ten university, just ten miles from downtown Philadelphia. About half of our 4,000 students enroll in BA and BS programs at Abington, while the rest finish their degrees at Penn State's University Park campus. The College strongly supports first-generation, minority, and multilingual students who make up more than half of the student body. We seek candidates with a Master's degree in TESOL or equivalent, and prefer the Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics or a cognate area. We particularly value professionals with both experience and fresh ideas in the area of multi-language learning. This is a non-tenure line position with a 48-week. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding. Please apply with a cover letter and Curriculum Vitae. In addition, please upload three letters of reference with contact information.
